The last few days have been weird. I've been putting in my hands at $50 and getting my ironman points that way, but I've also been playing at lower limits for different reasons. I was making some changes to my stat programs and needed a table up while I fine tuned things, and I played at $10pl with a friend for another session.
At $50, I've been up and down like a yo-yo. I'm playing break even poker there through the past 4 or 5 days, just feel like I can't get anything going. For whatever reason though, I'm just KILLING it at the lower limits. In a couple of sessions (probably around 500 hands at each of 25 and 10 plo) I'm showing profits of over 50 ptbb/100. I know those are small sample sizes, but the results are just too vastly different from my regular game to ignore.
I don't know what change I'm making at the lower limits, I'll have to put in some more hands to get a true statistical picture of my tendancies, but I'm certainly open to finding out and hopefully bringing those skills to the higher limit games.
For right now, I almost have to stay playing $50 as my main game, especially in January with the Fulltilt Ironman bonus that I have to clear - but I really think I'll start mixing in some $25 for some sessions. I'm so overrolled for it that it's not even funny, but maybe that's what makes me open it up and get in more pots where I have an edge but may back off at the higher level.
We'll have to see...

Holiday Thoughts and Wishes
I know this is a blog about poker, but Christmas tends to be one of those reflective times of the year so I thought I would use this time to reflect back over the past couple of months and give thanks to those that have helped me out since my return to (semi) serious poker playing.
I started out August 1st with a small-ish deposit of $400 and thought I could make a go of it at $50plo. Man was I ever wrong. Found out quickly how bad an idea that was, but thankfully with the deposit bonus and the rakeback, I was kept afloat in those early days. I started posting a pile of hands and getting advice from the regulars on FCP. I redeposited another $200 and went back to work.
I dropped down to $25plo, where I had a much better concept of bankroll management and started putting in some hands. I don't think I won anything in September or October, with rakeback keeping me going, but the bankroll declining. Still tried to keep posting hands and reading and learning from those with more experience.
By the end of October, I'd had enough. I felt like I was playing my heart out, but just wasn't seeing the results and wasn't getting any better. I had $250 left with one day to go in the month. I was at my wits' end and ready to call it quits. I'd already promised that I would take whatever rakeback I got at the beginning of November and cash it out, hoping to recoup some of my original investment.
Out of boredom or stupidity, I decided to play a couple of tournaments on the 31st of October. I put a stake thread on the forum and bought four guys in to a plo tournament, then I entered the $10 rebuy. ($10 rebuy with $200 in my account...a bit out of my bankroll) The four horses in the plo tourney went nowhere -- another member of fcp piggybacked on to the idea, and staked ONE guy from the same thread I created -- That guy went on to win the tournament...That pretty much sums up how my month had gone.
While I was watching my stake players lose my money, I actually started building a stack in the $10r tourney. I was running well in the third hour when I got involved in a big hand. I flopped two pair and got a guy all in where I was 80% to 20% with one card to come. Of course, he hit the card he needed and I was crippled. I was so dejected, but still had a few chips left to work with. An hour later, I'd built back to a top 20 stack and had it going again, feeling good. Get dealt KK and push preflop when the blinds and antes were becoming a factor. The guy in the big blind calls with 99 (another 80% / 20% hand) and flops a 9 on me to take the pot and cripple me yet again. I was ready to break something. We were already in the money, and if I'd held on that hand, I would have had a huge stack and been among the top couple of guys - instead, I was back struggling for my tourney life again.
Thankfully, I got lucky soon thereafter and tripled up in one hand. I had I think AQ and beat out two underpairs, jacks and eights if I recall. From there I cruised to the final table - I just couldn't get anything much going on the final table, but I did end up finishing third. Who were the two ahead of me?? Oh - BOTH of the two clowns from the hands I mentioned above, who I had both of them all in as 4/1 underdogs and they sucked out on me. That was tough to swallow, but the $1,750 that I took home helped to ease the pain.
So in one day, my roll went from $250 to $1900 and I was no longer planning on quitting the game, but instead pondering moving up in limits to play $50 plo...It was almost too good to be true.
That score allowed me to play in the November version of the $4.40 challenge on the forum as well. I started out on fire, I think I had 4 final tables in my first 7 tournaments. I just couldn't win one for the life of me. The best chance I had I ended up going out in 7th place, losing with AA to KK all in preflop for what would have been a monster chiplead. The point scoring was so heavily weighted for the winners though that it was still a close race. I think I went in to the last tournament with a one point lead on the guy in second. Unfortunately, he decided to totally own the last tourney we played, taking 3rd place, and I went out somewhere in the 40's to end up in second place. It was ok though, I was still happy with my play throughout and the score added a bit to the bankroll.
I've been playing $50plo pretty much exclusively this month, but for a little stint at both $25 and $100. I started out the month just on fire. I was hitting everything in sight and thought I finally had the game figured out. Then.......it all fell apart. I went on a huge downswing. I couldn't win an 80/20 to save my life, and forget ever hitting a coinflip. When you're running like that, the grind of poker really can get to you. Thankfully this last week or so, I've turned it around and am grinding my way back close to even. I'll be ok by the end of the month, and rakeback and FTP's year end bonus will put me right back in line with where I should be. I might treat myself to an Ipod or something shiny with all my FTP points next month too - we'll have to see.
Last but not least, I just wanted to mention that I am eternally grateful to a few people who've worked with me through the past couple of months. BudBundy (Firat), Simo8Ball (Mark), and TheBigLebowski (Jim) have been the only thing that's kept me from quitting at times. I appreciate the help and support and advice that they've given me more than any of them know.
Thanks to them, and anyone that reads this, and I hope each and every one of you have a happy and safe holiday season.

Just Plugging Away
I've been putting in a lot of hands this month, which is a good thing, and my results the last couple of days have started to turn around. I started posting on and reading a new forum as well in an effort to get more/better/different input on my play. I love the internet, there is SO much information out there if you know where to find it, and there are so many people willing to help others learn.
I'm actually anxious for this month to be over, I'm looking forward to a few things in the poker realm next month. First, I'll get my rakeback for the hands I've put in this month, which should get me back to around the 50 buyin threshhold where I'm more comfortable. Then, I can start working on clearing my year end bonus from FullTilt. I can get $375 if I put in the hands and earn it all. Once I get that happening, assuming I can continue to learn and improve......hopefully I can get back on track.
I really have to stay away from tournaments at this point. The varience is too high, and the time cost of playing a tourney where I'm stuck in it for 2+ hours then bust out with little or no profit really starts to add up, when you consider that I earn ~4/hr just in rakeback alone.
I'm well on my way to Iron status this month which is good. FullTilt's bonus point offer and the Ironman medals help too. I think I might make a purchase from the FTP store next month - treat myself to an Ipod or something. It's been a long 5 months of play, but I'm happy with where I've gotten myself to and where I'm (hopefully) heading.

If It Wasn't For Bad Luck....
I can't believe how this month is turning out, I'm seriously questioning everything about the game right now. I can't catch a break.
I played the $10 rebuy tonight to try and change things up. In the first hour, I got dealt pocket queens twice. BOTH times, someone else at the table had Aces...sigh.
I get through the first hour running ok, and start building a stack. I had about 6k in chips when the average was 10k, and the huge chipleader at our table raises my big blind (immediately after he'd gone all in over a raise and a call in the previous hand with the monster Jack/Ten offsuit) I have Ace/Queen, and go all in over top of his raise, he insta-calls. I feel good when I see he flips over Ace/Ten and I have him dominated. Four seconds later, he has a four card board flush and I'm out of the tournament. Beautiful.
Then I get in to some omaha. Short story long, I play 450 hands of break even poker, not getting in any big pots. Then I get involved in a monster. I'm in the big blind, so I see a free flop with Ace/Ten/Eight/Three...the flop is Ten/Eight/Three, and gives me a flush draw to the ace as well as the three pairs. I bet and raise the flop and get about 40% of my stack in there. The turn is an ace, so now I have four pairs, and the nut flush draw. Get it all in there....the guy shows a lower flush draw OH -- and he also has the only other two 3's in the deck for bottom set. It holds up, of course, and I'm down $80 more. Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
I don't even know what to think or do right now with this poker stuff. I have a decent amount coming for January in rakeback and fulltilt's bonus money for the end of the year....I don't know whether to just shut it down for the rest of the month and start January fresh, OR if I should keep at it and hope that it turns around.

It Becomes A Grind
Continued to run terribly today, ended up 3 buyins below my equity yet again. In the past 3 days, I'm 8 buyins below where I should be. It's times like these where it is tough to force myself to put in hands. I lost a hand today where I flopped a full house and got all the money in, only to watch the guy go runner/runner to make four of a kind against me. I seriously almost broke the screen off of my laptop.
Somehow at the end of the day, I did manage to turn a small profit, unfortunately it took me just shy of 1,300 hands to do so. Whatever I guess, that's a good number of hands and the rakeback and ironman bonuses have to count for something.
As I said yesterday and have to continue saying, tomorrow is another day, hopefully I can continue to play well (I've never been happier with my stats and aggression) and the luck factor will turn back to the good side and I'll hold up when I'm ahead and catch up when I'm behind.

Just Getting It Handed To Me
I don't even know what to say today...I ran HORRIBLY, and that's almost an understatement. Got my money in as a favourite or at least a coinflip time and time again, and didn't win a single one of them. The final straw was losing a stack as a 90/10 favourite with one card to come. Just unbelievable, I had to shut it down after that happened. I know I ran very well for the first week or so, it just kills me to see those profits flow back to the donators that they came from. I'm somehow still up money for the month, but I'm gonna have to turn this terrible luck around to show the results I want for the month.

I ran six buyins below equity today somehow. I've never even SEEN a graph like that. It's pretty brutal, to be honest. I can't complain too much, as I was well above equity on the luck graph, but it's now reversed itself and I'm running where I'm used to...BELOW expectation. I need to have a fresh mindset tomorrow though and not let today's losses affect me too much. Hopefully I can sleep it off.

Keep Plugging Away
Had a rough day Saturday, put in a good number of hands, played well, stats right on line with where I want them to be, just didn't get the results. Call it varience, laws of averages, luck, whatever, it just wasn't going my way. Dropped about three buyins through the day, couldn't make anything at all happen.
Thought today was going to be much of the same, was down two more buyins at one point. Had a good late session rally though and ended it off by taking down a three way pot for stacks to actually turn a profit for the day. Felt good, almost like vindication...lol
Got my ironman points all weekend, well on my way to iron status this month too.
For the first week, I won 6.5 ptbb/100 which is perfect for my goal. It's too bad, I was winning at double that rate for a bit, but I just have to stay patient and keep putting hands in. I know the results will follow.

Solid Day and Some Thoughts on Staking...
Played around 500 hands of 50plo today. Results were very good, I think I ended up somewhere close to +3 buyins and 25-ish bb/100, both of which I was very happy with. I'm right on track for all my goals for the month, playing enough hands for Iron status at FTP, winning at a decent clip, stats where I want them to be, feeling good.
Also keeping another goal I set for myself by staying away from tournament poker for the time being. The lure of the big payoff I have to admit does tempt me. I'd love to play the daily doubles every night, along with the 4k gtd plo and plo8, and a couple of the knockout tourneys, along with the $10 rebuy which is what I scored in to give me the roll to still even be playing today. The cost for these though, adds up very quickly if you're not cashing in them, it'd be very easy to spend $100 on entries in a few hours, which I can't afford to do right now. (Doubles are $12 each, $4k gtd's are $26, the $10r is minimum $30-50)
I did however put up a stake thread on FCP, giving out 5 stakes to a $2.20 donkfest on pokerstars. I don't have a whole lot of money left on Stars, as I moved over the majority of it with the help of a friend from the forum, so I'm just gonna have some fun with what's left on there, play some sng's and maybe donk some 2-7 triple draw (man I wish FTP would add that...)
Anyway, I staked 5 players in to the $2.20 tourney, 3 of which were out within the first ten minutes, the 4th just seconds after the first break, and the 5th just posted that he barely has the amount of the starting stack, an hour and a half in to the tourney...there's some good news....
I truly don't expect wonderful things when I put up these stake threads, but man...a cash, or some genuine effort would be nice. To see some of the hands these guys post, they shove when they're clearly beaten, is so frustrating. ("hmm, the guy just 4-bet me all in preflop, and I have AQ offsuit...I CALL!!!)
I really think I'm done staking people on the open forum. I understand the nature of the whole thing, and I've been the one looking for stakes at some points in my poker career. I still remember when bkice was good enough to stake me and about 6 or 7 others in to a $27 tourney after a big score. Such a selfless act, and I've always remembered that and always tried to "make up" for being on the receiving end.
I've just had NO luck at all though. I staked TEN people in to the $500 added private FCP tourney. The size of the WHOLE field was under 150 players, I had like 6% of all the entries in the damn thing and couldn't get so much as a CASH from any of them. I've done a few more stakes, and with the exception of $5 that I GAVE to Elo and Ag out of appreciation for scoring the $4.40 pool, NOBODY ever has cashed. Elo cashed on the stake for $20, and without even asking or talking about it sent me half as per the usual stake deal. I sent it back to him and told him to let it ride. I never gave him the $5 in the hopes of getting $10 back...he's a guy with little to no roll who seems to have some talent. Hopefully he can make something of it (and ship me a real amount when he hits a cash in a sunday million or something...lol)
Anyways, screw anymore staking. Back to the plo tomorrow. Hopefully the stake karma is good for a two-outer or something when I need it. GL.

Good First Few Days
Haven't blogged for the first couple of days, I've been sick as a dog, sleeping most of the days away, trying to put in 50-100 hand sessions here and there.
My results actually have been very good, by my standards. I started out on an ugly downswing, losing 4 buyins almost right away. I've stuck with the aggression game that I'm trying to get comfortable with, and I've gotten lucky a time or two and had some hands hold up where they needed to and I'm doing well.
If I can keep this going, and get some money moved over from pokerstars, and add in my november rakeback money, I'll have a decent roll online for a change. Hopefully I can keep this up and start thinking about how and when to move to 100plo.

I've stuck with the aggression game that I'm trying to get comfortable with, and I've gotten lucky a time or two and had some hands hold up where they needed to and I'm doing well.

November Recap
Well...I finished second in the $4.40 challenge, despite going in to the last tournament with the lead. I actually got fairly deep in it too, but the guy who won (fitzinabox) just totally hit everything in sight in the last one to take down the challenge. I have nothing at all to complain about, I exceeded my goal, and took a few hundred bucks for my trouble.
As for the rest of poker, I turned a small profit in November, which is partially depressing BUT, given that I was down $400 inside of six days, I'm glad that I was just able to get things back to the good side before adding in rakeback and ironman bonuses. I didn't earn as much rakeback as I'd hoped but this coming month, I'm hoping to get to $500.
I'm doing well right now, and really feel like I've made great strides in the past few weeks and am really learning to play this game properly. If I can keep it up, hopefully in a few months I'll be ready for the leap to $100.

Ups and Downs
Today was a crazy day of poker, to say the least. I started out by losing two buyins at 50plo almost right off the bat. Since it's nearing the end of the month, it was time to play some $4.40's, so I got in a few of those. Also played the daily doubles on FullTilt.
To say I ran horribly would be a massive understatement. I lost early out of the daily double, running my lowly AA in to the massive 45 offsuit, all in preflop when he hit a 5 on the flop and the river. In the other one, I only had KK which got all in vs. the massive J8 offsuit, as well as Ace Seven offsuit. The flop was Jack, 8, something and the path to me needing a new laptop wireless mouse was well underway.
I ran like crap in the $4.40's too, probably costing myself the win in the challenge. In the first two I played I don't even know if I won a hand anywhere, and I think I went out 36th in the third one, saving myself at the very least a chance in the thing. Three more to play before the end of the month, but I'm pretty comfortably in second right now, barring someone winning one.
Put in a quick session of 50plo just to wind down after sucking so badly in those tourneys, and somehow managed to get myself back to profitability for the day, so that was a good thing. I also made gold again this month for ironman, which I just found out yesterday is gonna be good for a few hundred extra bucks at the start of the year, thanks to a new promo from fulltilt.
Things are really starting to come together, and I do see what I hope can be a pattern of bankroll growth and turning my initial investment of $600 in to being properly rolled to play $50 and $100 plo at times, and then being able to start taking out some of the profits or rakeback to treat myself and my family to some stuff to compensate for the time I put in playing this stupid game....lol
For tomorrow, I want to play ~500 hands of 50plo minimum, and I will probably play the last of my $4.40's, but we'll see how the day goes.

Another Day at the Office
Put in two short sessions the past couple of days while I've been working. Played around 275 hands each day just to get my ironman points for the month. On Friday, I won a grand total of 90 cents so that was insanely boring, but at least it wasn't a loss. Saturday was better, I got some cards to play and managed to make ~$90 for the day.
I should be able to play 500 or so hands tonight if all goes well. I really feel I've turned the corner, so to speak in the past few weeks. I'm almost back to even on the month after losing 8 buyins in the first five days adjusting to $50plo, so I've been trying to climb out of that hole ever since.
Haven't played any more $4.40's, still have 6 left to go. Nobody's made any big moves in it either, so I'm still in good shape at this point.

Couple of average days...
Not much to write home about yesterday and today. Tuesday I was on a tournament kick for some reason. Played in a bunch and pretty much came up empty. Some sick cooler hands too, I lost AK to KQ and QT to T8, both all in preflop. In another, I was shortstacked getting towards the bubble, and the blinds were killing my stack. It gets folded to me in the small blind, so I just shove with A5 suited. Sure enough, BB has aces, gg me. Seemed to be the way it went all day long.
I didn't play much plo yesterday either, just enough to get my ironman points. Lost a buyin there too, so that sucked.
Only saving grace for the day was that I moved in to first place in the $4.40 challenge, albeit by only one point - however - I do have a game in hand on the guy in second. There are a few guys below who have gotten off to a solid start and still have a lot of poker to play. They could become instant contenders with a big score. I have 6 tourneys left to play, and I think if I can put up at least one, maybe two cashes, and if I get lucky and grab a FT appearance somewhere, I should be in good shape to at least collect some scratch for my efforts. I still haven't had that one big blowup where I go out in 175th place or something (knock on wood), so hopefully I'll just continue to put up the points.
Played some 50plo early today, and lost horribly. I was down almost 3 buyins inside of 200 hands. It was terrible. Every time I had a hand, it got caught. Everytime I was drawing, it missed. I couldn't do anything right, so I did the smart thing and took a couple hours off. Sat back in for the night session, and joined the Daily Double tourney on Tilt as well. (I'm gonna make a score in that friggin thing one day, I swear)
I busted out of the 1st DD pretty early on, getting it all in preflop with AK vs. 88. I flopped an ace too, but he turned the 3rd 8, and it was good night to that idea. I was trucking along ok in the other tourney too, so it was kind of disappointing. I ended up going out around 200th in that one, getting $19 for my effort, so it almost covered the cost of the two.
While I was in those, I was playing some omaha. I actually was getting some cards and hitting some hands too. I made a really tough laydown with a full house that I thought I read well, even though due to a sidepot I would have still made a bit of money if I'd called, but I was beaten for the main pot. I won back just over two buyins there, to net myself close to even for the day. Any time I can play 700 hands in a day and be down early and get it back close to even, I'll be ok with that. With rakeback and bonus' it should almost be a wash.
I should be able to put in some hands tomorrow too. I'll shoot for around 500, which should be good for my ironman points. The idea is to maybe play one or two 4.40's as well, but I work early on Friday morning, so that may or may not end up happening.

Back in the Saddle
After a weekend of not playing a single hand, I got back at it today. Played some $50 early on, and did ok. Put in about 300 hands to get my Ironman points and won about $30. Nothing major.
Then FCP ran a $10 buyin $500 added tourney. I decided that since I'd been running decently well and have benefitted from other people doing so in the past, I'd stake a few people in to the tournament all in the spirit of the community. I originally said I'd stake 4, which then turned in to 8, plus my entry. I crapped out in that, as did EVERY one of the guys I staked - I didn't get so much as a single person that made the money. Oh well, whatever - as I say, I've taken stakes from guys before when I was busto or close to it and I know how much it means to just be in the action.
After the FCP tourney, I got in to a couple of $4.40's. Kind of meandered through them, never really built up a stack but lasted fairly long in both, going out 51st and 41st. For right now, consistency is the most important thing for me. I am going to need a score somewhere in the last nine tourneys to be comfortable, BUT, the more important thing right now is to earn as many points as I can when the cards aren't running my way. A 50th place finish when card dead is much better than forcing the action a bit earlier and going out 125th.
When those were over, I got in to a $5 omaha rebuy with Biglebowski. To make a long story short, I missed a chance to triple up just before the first break when I lost to a guy who had exactly a 4% chance of winning the hand when all the money went in. That hurt just a little, but I was able to rebuy still and do the add-on. Once we got past that point, I went out on a flop where the guy with a big stack who was betting in to my full house had no less than a 2% chance, and hit perfect perfect for a bigger boat. That obviously wasn't my tournament....lol
Once that was thankfully over, I got back in to some $50 plo. I was cruising right along, up a buyin early when I end up with AAxx, on a final board of AT85T. Aces full looks solid while all the money is going in to the middle - until the other guy rolls over TT for the rivered quads. That sucked pretty hard.
Kept at it, grinding it out for a little bit longer, and I get dealt AAKQ double suited. All the money goes in to the pot preflop THREE ways ($170 pot) and I took it down. I didn't even see the hand, as most times when I'm all in preflop, I minimize the table and just wait for it to pop back up on the next hand when it's my turn to act and I have a giant stack. If it doesn't pop up in a minute or so, I know I didn't get there and it's time to pull it back up and reload.
I plan to put in a LOT of hands tomorrow -- hopefully 1k or so at $50. Maybe play 2 or 3 $4.4o's - I have 9 more to play for the challenge. I'm thinking that the positive karma from doing all those stakes ought to come back to me somewhere....

Boooring
Nothing much exciting at all today. Plodded through enough hands to get my ironman points and that was about it. Played just under 200 hands, ended up -$10. No real big hands of note, I stacked a shorty with a combo draw vs. flopped set when I hit, and I lost some on a continuation semi-bluff when the guy called down with the ass-end of a straight. Oh well.
Won't get in much (maybe not any) poker at all tomorrow. I work until 7am, then I have two hockey games to ref in the afternoon, then I work again at 7pm. In fact, now that I look at that, I can pretty much say for sure there will be no poker. I'll be dead tired and not at all in the right frame of mind to put in any hands.
In the $4.40 challenge, I haven't played one for a few days now. Those above me have been though, and none of them have made any big scores at all. The pack is a bit tighter now, a couple of people have moved in to contention where one or two good finishes could put them right at the top of the pack. I'm still confident though, I still have 11 to play, and I'm well over ½ way to where I think I'll need to be to take it down.

200 hands of mediocre, 50 hands of awesome
Had a great day overall today. Played my 200 hands early to get in my ironman points. Nothing much of any excitement, won about $30 which was decent, I was happy with that for only a few hundred hands. Was reading a bit on the forum, following the $4.40 challenge, etc and decided to take a look at the tables. Just like last night, I saw some loose tables, guys with big stacks, large average pots, etc but tonight, I was feeling good, so I sat in.50 hands later, I'd made just under two buyins, hitting flops and getting paid off on them. It was exciting, but I didn't want to push it too far, so I called it a night and turned a good profit for the day. +40BB/100 today, and close to a good bankroll plateau.
Didn't play any $4.40's either - I think I'm off those until Monday once my 5 days of work are done and I can devote myself to playing a four hour tourney, which is what they usually last if you are lucky enough to get deep. Right now I know that I don't have the required level of concentration to get deep and stay focused, and there's enough money at stake here that I don't want to just donk it away to try and get the 20 tourneys in.
For tomorrow, I have some running around to do - might play some 50 just to get in the required ironman points, but I work overnight, so there won't be many hands put in once I get to the point goal for the day.

Quick Hit
Came home from work today tired - the first and last shifts are usually the hardest - so I basically passed out when I got home. Woke up at 11pm and realized I only had an hour to earn any ironman points for the day. 4-tabled 50plo for the hour, got in 216 hands, and made just over a buyin. It was actually pretty hectic for the session, I didn't have any big losses, but scooped a nice pot on a guy who telegraphed his aces enough that I called him down with two pairs. People were playing very aggressive, and I really wasn't getting many cards or hitting many flops, so it ended up to be a pretty tight/passive 216 hands. Whatever works, I'll take the extra $50.
I took a quick look at the games just now, and there are a LOT of tables going where a lot of players have >2 buyins on the table - some known donators too, I just can't bring myself to put in a session right now. That's one thing that I'm learning/trying to deal with -- playing when I'm in the right frame of mind. I would LOVE nothing more than to open up 4 tables right now and take some shots at those big piles of chips out there - BUT, I have to work again in 6 hours, and I know that playing against these guys can be very high varience, and I just don't have the time right now to try and grind it back if I were to drop a buyin or two early on.
No $4.40's today - still in good shape. I think it's a two -maybe three- horse race for the prizes at this point, but I won't get a chance to play any for the rest of the week I don't think. Should give me a good idea of what I need to do to put myself in a good position to finish the thing out though - either play conservative just to get points where I can, OR if I'll have to go for broke, so to speak, trying to take one down for the big score to get back in there.
We shall see...

Varience finally shows up
I knew it had to sooner or later. Missed a few flips here and there, ended up playing about 750 hands of plo, and lost 2 buyins, which ISN'T terrible, it just brings a little reality check when I'd been running somewhat decently for the past couple days.
Played 2 $4.40's tonight too, couldn't really get much going in either - managed to get some points for the challenge though, and I still think I'm in good shape. Finished 52nd in one and 25th in the other, so I didn't cash, but the 25th is good for a decent amount of points. As of now, I've played 9 and have 209 points - 11 more to play - 305 points won the last challenge, so I think unless a couple of the other guys start posting wins all over the place, I should be in good shape for at least a money finish. I'd be happy with that.
Won't be much play in the next few days, back to the real world for 5, but hopefully I can get in some hands at 50 tomorrow and turn it around.

Meh
Put in a fair amount of hands today, just under a thousand. Were some ups and downs, but ended up plus one buyin, which is decent. I feel good about the game that I'm playing right now and I'm sure the results will be better at the end of this month than they have been for the past couple.
Didn't play any 4.40's today, still sitting at 7 played and 190 pts. I see though that one of the other guys in the challenge won one today, so he's ahead of me, with one more tournament played. I really don't think the points in these are allocated properly - it rewards the one "big score" much more than it does the consistent player. I'm still confident in my tourney game right now, but I won't be able to play many in the next few days - I'm back to work Wed-Sun this week, so I'll have to try and squeeze one or two in where I can.
The plan for tomorrow...probably just $50plo, I doubt I'll play any tourneys at all. Would be nice to put in 750 hands or so - I'm trying for Iron level on Fulltilt this month, and I think if I can put in 20-25k hands at $50, the rakeback benefits should be solid.

Nap FTW!!
So, I said earlier that I didn't feel like putting in the time to play any $4.40's today...laid out on the couch, watched a bit of the Sunday night football game and passed out for an hour or so. Woke up refreshed and thought why not, I'll play a couple.
Got in three, went out 33rd in one, and made the final tables in both the other two. Was supershortstacked on both and ended up going out in 9th place of each, but whatever, I was just stoked to keep up the crazy run I've been on.
7 tourneys played, 5 cashes, 4 final tables. Finishes 33rd, 19th, 11th, 9th, 9th, 7th, 3rd.
If I can keep it going anywhere NEAR this pace, the $575 should be a lock.

If I can keep it going anywhere NEAR this pace, the $575 should be a lock.

New mindset, better results
Had a good day playing $50 plo today - 409 hands, $88.65 profit (21.67 BB/100) Had a couple of big hands hold up, flopped a set of kings that dodged the obligatory flush draw for a stack, and hit a monster flop with AAxx, flopping a set of aces with backup nut flush draw - other guy called with a lower flush draw and a gutshot and missed.
The rakebreak 10k freeroll is a joke. Half the field didn't show up, which should be a good thing, but it really slows down play, and it's tough to get in any rhythm. I never really got any cards and went out 222nd, when 75 paid. Oh well.
Didn't play any $4.40's today, really didn't have the time to devote myself to it in case I got deep. Still in very good shape in the FCP challenge though. I doubt I'll play any tomorrow either for the same reason. Maybe tomorrow night I'll squeeze one or two in. I don't think I'll have any problem doing 20 by the end of the month.
I feel good playing $50plo right now, and the rakeback and point benefits to playing the higher level are huge. Hopefully I can keep that going for the next little bit and get myself back in to the black for that level. I burned off my rakeback pretty quickly in the early days of the month before moving back to $25 and teaching myself the right way to play.
Good Luck!

Starting Fresh
Welcome!
After a very long hiatus, I've decided to renew my poker-blogging pastime. I'm playing fairly seriously now, and need a place other than the forum at fullcontactpoker.com to vent, think out loud, analyze, learn, teach, or whatever else may come of this.
The plan for right now is to update at least something on a daily basis, but we'll see how things go.
For right now, I'm playing pot limit omaha, split between $25 and $50 limits. Thanks to the help of a few patient and dedicated friends, I finally feel like I have my game in a groove where I can turn a profit, in addition to what I earn in rakeback every month - instead of just using rakeback to get me even...
I'm also in the $4.40 180-man sit n'go challenge at FCP. I'm running hot in tournaments right now, I've played 4 in the last two days, with three cashes and two final tables. I would be winning but for Heebner and his luckbox ways ;-)
Sunday, the plan is to play 3 or 4 more $4.40's, the rakebreak 10k freeroll on Tilt, and a bunch more hands at $50plo.
Cheers!
